Befriending Services

CDA uses a small group of Volunteers, some Deaf and some hearing to support others. Tasks might include accompanying someone to hospital, doctors, shopping, simple form filling, letter writing, transport to and from all three local social clubs and sometimes just to keep in touch with very isolated people.

All volunteers have some signing skills and tasks are matched according to signing ability. It is important for volunteers to have a knowledge of Deaf culture and current issues affecting the Deaf community. This work is monitored by the Community Manager. Training will be given where necessary.
